PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE

                           

Past Continuous Tense:-The Tense which shows that an action began and continuing in past time is called past continuous tense.

वह Tense जो यह दर्शाता है कि कोई कार्य बीते हुवे समय में शुरू हुआ हो और उसी समय जारी हो, तो उसे past continuous tense कहते है |

Identification:- वाक्य के अन्त में रहा था, रहे थे, रही थी आदि पाया जाता है |

 Stru:- S+was/were+V₄+O+R.M.

Rule:-1. We use ‘was’ with I, He, She, It and any single name and ‘were’ You, We, They and two or more than two name and then V₄.

I, He, She, It                      

and                             was

any single name

 You, We, They

and                             were

two or more than two name

 2.In Negative Sentence,we use ‘not’ after the was/were and then use V₄.

                          Was not           =               wasn’t

                          Were not         =               weren’t   

3.In Interrogative Sentence, we use was/were before the subject and V₄ after the subject.

4.In Interrogative negative sentence, we use ‘not’ after the subject and then V₄.

E.g. of Past continuous:-

AFFIRMATIVE

Stru:- S+was/were+V₄+O+R.M.

1.वह बाग में घूम रहा था|

 He was walking in the garden.

2.मैं एक पुस्तक पढ़ रहा था|

 I was reading a book.

3.तारे चमक रहे थे|

 The stars were shining.

4.दीपू दूध पी रहा था|

  Deepu was drinking milk.

5.तोते आम खा रहे थे|

 The parrots were eating the mango.

NEGATIVE

Stru:- S+was/were+not+V₄+O+R.M.

1.वह बाग में नहीं घूम रहा था|

 He was not walking in the garden.

2.मैं एक पुस्तक नहीं पढ़ रहा था|

 I was not reading a book.

3.तारे नहीं चमक रहे थे|

 The stars  were not shining.

4.दीपू दूध नहीं पी रहा था|

  Deepu was not drinking milk.

5.तोते आम नहीं खा रहे थे|

 The parrots were not eating the mango.

INTERROGATIVE

Stru:- Was/Were+S+V₄+O+R.M.+?

1.क्या वह बाग में घूम रहा था?

  Was He walking in the garden?

2.क्या मैं एक पुस्तक पढ़ रहा था?

  Was I reading a book?

3.क्या तारे चमक रहे थे?

 Were The stars shining?
